FAQ

1. What should I expect during my first massage?

  • During a massage, the therapist will ask about your preferences and any areas of tension or discomfort. They will then use various techniques, such as kneading, stroking, and stretching, to relax your muscles and alleviate tension. You can expect a peaceful, calming atmosphere with soft lighting and relaxing music.

2. Do I need to bring anything with me?

  • No need to bring anything except for yourself! However, it helps to keep makeup and accessories to a minimum, especially dangly jewelry. Some people prefer to bring their own water bottle, but many massage therapists offer water after your session.

3. How do I prepare for a massage?

  • You shouldn’t need to arrive more than 10 minutes early if you’ve already filled out the online forms. Bathroom facilities will be available for you to use before your massage. It is okay to hydrate, but avoid eating a heavy meal right before the massage. If you have any specific areas of tension or pain, think about how you'd like the therapist to focus on those areas.

4. What should I wear?

  • Most people undress to their comfort level for a massage, but you can keep on underwear if that makes you feel more comfortable. The therapist will always respect your privacy and ensure you’re properly draped with a sheet to maintain modesty. If there are any areas you don’t want worked on, such as the feet or scalp, please let your therapist know before the session.

5. How much pressure should I request?

  • Massage pressure can range from light (relaxing) to firm (therapeutic). When booking, communicate your comfort level. If you're unsure, start with a medium pressure and then guide your therapist if it's too much or too little during the session.

6. Will the massage hurt?

  • While a massage should feel soothing and relaxing, some discomfort may occur, especially if you're getting a deep tissue massage or targeting specific areas of tension. Always communicate with your therapist to adjust the pressure if something feels too painful or uncomfortable. Massage shouldn’t have to be painful!

7. Can I talk during the massage?

  • You can talk if you want, but it’s perfectly fine to remain silent and simply relax. If you want to discuss any discomfort, ask for adjustments, or even ask questions about techniques, your therapist will be happy to engage with you.

8. How long does a massage last?

  • The typical massage lasts anywhere from 60 minutes to 90 minutes. If you're new, you might want to start with a 60-minute session to get the full experience without feeling overwhelmed.

9. What are the benefits of massage?

  • Massages can help reduce stress, improve circulation, ease muscle tension, relieve pain, and promote relaxation. Regular massages can also improve flexibility and improve overall well-being.

10. Is there a risk of bruising or soreness after a massage?

  • Some soreness or light bruising can occur, especially if the massage focused on areas with a lot of tension or if you opted for a deep tissue massage. This is usually temporary and should subside within a day or two. Remember to drink plenty of water after your session!

11. What if I have medical conditions or injuries?

  • It’s important to inform your therapist about any medical conditions, injuries, or areas of chronic pain. They may need to adjust their techniques or suggest an alternative treatment based on your health. Remember that your Massage Therapist is not a doctor and we are unable to diagnose anything.

12. Should I tip my massage therapist?

  • Tipping is generally appreciated and is often based on the quality of service. A standard tip is usually between 15% to 20% of the session price, but this is up to you and can vary based on your satisfaction.

13. How will I feel after the massage?

  • Many people feel deeply relaxed and rejuvenated. Some may feel a little sleepy, while others might feel energized. It's a good idea to take it easy after the massage, stay hydrated, and give your body time to process the benefits.

14. How often should I get a massage?

  • This depends on your personal needs. If you're dealing with stress or chronic pain, weekly or bi-weekly massages may be beneficial. For general relaxation, once a month is a good starting point.

15. What forms of payment do you accept?

  • Feel Better Massage excepts both online and in office payments. We accept all major credit cards, P2P payments such as Venmo and CashApp, personal checks, FSA, and Apple Pay (please check with your practitioner first for this option).
